When I compare these to the last shoe I tested, the Reebok Floatride Energy 2, it was night and day. However, when I say they want to go fast, I do not mean that all of the sudden a 10:00/mi runner will be pulling off 6:00/mi. Once I got my form down, the shoes locked in and pushed me forward at paces I haven’t seen since before my Achilles injury. The transition from your strike to toe off to knee drive and repeat just locks you in. If you shuffle run, or run with low foot clearance, you’ll need to focus on a high knee drive and push off the ground. These shoes need you to run in a certain form, and I found that it took me a few runs, not to break them in but, to learn how to run in these shoes. The next thing is learning to run in them. I was still able to run on a rainy day, but it was not the most fun experience in the world. The biggest flaw to me is the grip on wet surfaces. But those flaws are the type I can get over. The Shift is the perfect complement to your Speed or Pro, or any other racing flat you’ve got on your roster.Again, I have a hard time not just gushing over this shoe. It has a thick midsole, complete with PWRRUN cushioning to keep you protected, a lower offset (4 mm) to enhance stability and a thin layer of PWRRUN+ to keep you feeling fast. This is where the Shift comes in – it’s your recovery day or long (but still pretty chill) day shoe.

Time on your feet is essential for race-day success. When you’re training for a marathon, your long and easy days are just as important as your hard days. The Shift is a dream shoe for an easy day. Weight: 286 g ( 10.1 oz.) for men’s size nine Otherwise, save your Endorphin Pro for race day and use the Speed as your training shoe in the weeks leading up. If you’re looking to save a few dollars on your racing shoe, it’s a wonderful option for the start line. It gave me the boost I was looking for in a workout shoe (especially on a day when I was feeling a little tired) without sacrificing on cushioning or durability. I loved this shoe for tempos on the road. While the Speed is a touch heavier than the Pro, outside of weight, it’s nearly identical in its specs and ride.

The Speed can be used for a few things: a tempo run, or speedwork on the track, or you can save it to use as a race-day shoe. This shoe also moves similarly to the Pro, since it uses the same SpeedRoll Geometry, which delivers the rock forward and the pop at toe-off. The Speed also uses the same foam as the Pro – ultralight PWRRUN cushioning that’s 40 per cent lighter than Saucony’s PWRRUN+ (which is used in the Triumph).

Instead, it has a full-length, S-shaped nylon plate to lend stiffness, meaning runners get slightly less rigidity at toe-off, and at a lower price. This shoe has almost everything the Pro has, minus the carbon plate.
